Entirely volunteer-run, DFT is led by a dedicated group of 7 committee members, supported by a growing number of general members, all of whom have experience working with people living with dementia and their family carers.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Goals:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Promote Acceptance<\/strong>: Foster a greater understanding and acceptance of people living with dementia and their family carers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Increase Knowledge<\/strong>: Enhance knowledge and understanding of dementia within the broader community.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collaborate on Events<\/strong>: Plan and organize events that cater to the needs of people living with dementia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Encourage Peer Interactions<\/strong>: Facilitate opportunities for social interaction and friendships among people living with dementia (PLWD), their carers, and families.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Engage the Community<\/strong>: Encourage community groups, politicians, and businesses to recognize the impacts of dementia and to take steps towards becoming dementia-friendly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote Dementia-Friendly Communities<\/strong>: Advocate for the creation of communities that are supportive and understanding of the needs of people living with dementia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Our Values &#8211; &#8220;CARES&#8221; Mnemonic:<\/h3>\n<strong>C<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Community and Compassion<\/strong>: Building a compassionate community that understands and supports people living with dementia.<br \/>\n<strong>A<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Awareness and Action<\/strong>: Raising awareness and encouraging proactive steps to support those affected by dementia.<br \/>\n<strong>R<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Respect and Recognition<\/strong>: Ensuring that people living with dementia and their carers are treated with respect and their contributions recognized.<br \/>\n<strong>E<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Engagement and Encouragement<\/strong>: Promoting engagement and offering encouragement to those living with dementia and their families.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Support and Share Stories<\/strong>: Providing support and opportunities to share stories and experiences.\n<p>Dementia Friendly Tasmania Inc is committed to creating a more inclusive and understanding community for people living with dementia and their carers.
