Raising Awareness and Understanding of Dementia

Dementia Friendly Tasmania Inc (DFT) was established in 2016 with a mission to increase awareness, knowledge, and understanding of dementia within the community. Entirely volunteer-run, DFT is led by a dedicated group of 7 committee members, supported by a growing number of general members, all of whom have experience working with people living with dementia and their family carers.

Our Goals:

  • Promote Acceptance: Foster a greater understanding and acceptance of people living with dementia and their family carers.
  • Increase Knowledge: Enhance knowledge and understanding of dementia within the broader community.
  • Collaborate on Events: Plan and organize events that cater to the needs of people living with dementia.
  • Encourage Peer Interactions: Facilitate opportunities for social interaction and friendships among people living with dementia (PLWD), their carers, and families.
  • Engage the Community: Encourage community groups, politicians, and businesses to recognize the impacts of dementia and to take steps towards becoming dementia-friendly.
  • Promote Dementia-Friendly Communities: Advocate for the creation of communities that are supportive and understanding of the needs of people living with dementia.
